On December 14, the first reproductive industry innovation forum for national biomedical technology innovation center was successfully held in Suzhou BioBAY, during the event, the unveiling ceremony of “Innovation and transformation base of national assisted reproduction and eugenics engineering technology research center” and the launch ceremony of “Yangtze River Delta genetic counseling and diagnosis center” were also held. The national innovation center of biomedicine technology is the first approved national innovation center of biomedical industry in China. It’s a milestone for Suzhou to undertake national strategic tasks and seize the international discourse power in the biomedical field. Based on the innovation of reproductive industry, academician He Lin, Academician Chen Zijiang and others experts and scholars jointly discussed the layout opportunities of reproductive innovation industry chain in Suzhou.
Academician He Lin delivered a speech, he said that as for nowadays medicine, all the problem cannot getting around of gene or genome, which include two aspects: genetic testing and genetic counseling. The rapid development of genetic testing technology and the expanding of genetic counseling demand produced a lot of data. However, the lack of genetic knowledge among clinicians makes it hard to solve many genetic problems and the data cannot be effectively used. With artificial intelligence, Yangtze River Delta genetic counseling and diagnosis center build the data platform of genetic counseling to help patients. It also established a large industrial communication platform to help all relevant industries.
Population crisis has made us realized the importance of population health and reproductive health, academician Chen Zijiang says. One of the most important tasks for reproductive industry innovation is to help realize the adjustment of population structure and population health. Innovation and transformation base of national assisted reproduction and eugenics engineering technology research center established in Suzhou, the purpose is to transform ideas and thoughts of scientists and medical requirements into technology and products, which is our mission objectives for the future, also consistent with “four orientations” put forward by President Xi. We hope that we can make a good use of the platform of this transformation base to realize the effective combination of production, education and research and do a good job in the cause of reproductive health.
Professor Sha Jiahao congratulated the establishment of the innovation and transformation base. He said, in February this year, Suzhou Industrial Park Administrative Committee signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Nanjing Medical University and Shandong University to jointly build the Gusu innovation research institute of Nanjing medical university and collaborative innovation center of reproductive medicine in Suzhou between Nanjing Medical University and Shandong University. The main purpose of this action are to build the Collaborative Innovation Center of Reproductive Medicine into a leading transformation base of China and the world by utilizing relevant resources of Nanjing Medical University and Shandong University. The center will live up to expectations. Based in Suzhou, the center will gather together excellent reproductive medicine resources of the country and industrialize them to build the center into an international high level R&D highland and transformation center.
Suzhou government not only provides strong support for the listing of Basecare, but also provides favorable conditions for the future expansion of the industry. Dr. Liangbo said. With the support of academician Chen Zijiang, the establishment of the transformation base shoulders the important task of national scientific and technological innovation and clinical new technology breakthrough. As a listed company, rely on national innovation platform, Basecare can carry out industrialization transformation of effective resources. Furthermore, The Yangtze River Delta genetic counseling and diagnosis center was established under the initiative of Shanghai Municipal Government and the promotion of Academician He Lin. It fits the layout of the national strategy, provides strong support for the biomedical industry and clinical application, and constructs a large industrial chain cluster.

Innovation and transformation base of national assisted reproduction and eugenics engineering technology research center
Led by academician Chen Zijiang, founded by Shandong University, National Assisted Reproduction and Eugenics Engineering Technology Research Center is the only national engineering technology research center in the field of assisted reproduction approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. The innovation and transformation base established in Basecare will help to accelerate the industrial transformation of leading enterprise, build the upstream and downstream industrial chain of the reproductive industry, and speed up the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and the clinical application of technology research.
Yangtze River Delta genetic counseling and diagnosis center
The Yangtze River Delta genetic counseling and diagnosis center was established under the initiative of Shanghai Municipal Government and the promotion of Academician He Lin. The center takes academician Helin and other top genetic experts’ team in Shanghai as the core, and genetic counseling experts from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui jointly participated in the establishment of genetic counseling experts database to build a genetic counseling and diagnosis platform for the Yangtze River Delta region. The platform provides genetic counseling and diagnosis services covering reproductive health, tumor, rare disease and other life and health fields, realizing the integrated development of genetic diagnosis technology and genetic counseling in the Yangtze River Delta region. In the future, the center will serve as a national genetic counseling and diagnosis platform to further expand its service scope.
During the conference, Professor Ma Jinlong delivered a speech on the topic of “introduction to the key R&D program of National Assisted Reproduction and Eugenics Engineering Technology Research Center”. With the increasing infertility rate of recent years, there is a huge demand for assisted reproductive medical products. However, the current situation of the market are not so satisfying, culture medium products all rely on import, PGT reagents lacks registration certificate. So it’s with great importance to promote the R&D of products with independent intellectual property rights in the field of reproductive health.
Professor Sha Jiahao delivered a special report on “application of pluripotent stem cells in future reproductive medicine”. Pluripotent stems cell is a kind of pluripotent cells with the ability of self-renewal and self-replication. Cultured in vitro has made it possible to develop them into functional germ cells. The research has been carried out in mice, which pointed out the possibility of creating alternative gametes for humans. In the future, it will be a boon for infertile patients.
Professor Lv Haitao delivered a speech on “application and development of AI in genetic counseling”. Doctors for rare diseases are even rarer than rare diseases. Only with existing medical resources, it’s difficult to achieve early screening, early diagnosis and early treatment of rare disease. AI may solve this problem by making auxiliary diagnosis based on the special features of patients with rare disease. In addition, it can also construct genetic knowledge maps by analyzing massive number of medical records by natural language to further guide clinical diagnosis.
As a leading industry strongly supported by Suzhou government, biomedicine leads the country in industry scale.
