Thelist of projects awarded in the Second Medical Science and TechnologyInnovation Competition - Reproductive Health Session has been unveiledrecently, which is hosted by the Development Center for Medical Science andTechnology of National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China.Basecare won the silver award in the product technology research anddevelopment section for the project “Development and Industrial Production ofPreimplantation Genetic Detection and Blockade of Balanced Translocations”.


Inthis project, Basecare has innovatively developed a detection technology RetSeq(restriction endonuclease sequencing for translocation detection) to block thefamily transmission of balanced translocations. Based on the high-throughputsequencing platform to specifically capture SNP genetic markers covering thewhole genome, and empowered by the proprietary haplotype linkage analysisalgorithm, this technology enables a universal detection suitable for allbalanced translocations. It features the following advantages:

1.In addition to detecting chromosomal copy number variations in embryos, it canalso effectively identify whether an embryo with normal copy number carriesbalanced translocations, to completely block the transmission of the disease tofuture generations;

2.The innovative RetSeq technology enables a genome-wide SNP analysis based onlow-depth sequencing;

3.It is a general-purpose technology that can simultaneously detect balancedtranslocations at any position on 23 pairs of chromosomes without individualdesign;

4.With significantly reduced detection costs and greatly shortened detectioncycles, it is available for industrial development to fill the gap of clinicaldetection.

Technologicalinnovation is the new driving force for the national development of prenataland postnatal care. Through careful preparation and repeated exercise, theproject team of Basecare won the silver award in return, which is not only anincentive to the team’s efforts but also an important affirmation of theinnovation, science, feasibility and practicality of Basecare’s technology researchand development project. Basecare will remain focused on technologicalbreakthroughs and disruptive creations in the field of reproductive health, topromote the acceleration of the industrial production of innovativereproductive health technologies.

Inrespond to the national policy on reproductive health and to conform to theclinical needs and industry trends of reproductive health medicine, the DevelopmentCenter for Medical Science and Technology of National Health Commission of thePeople’s Republic of China, by considering the domestic forms andcharacteristics, convened the Second Medical Science and Technology InnovationCompetition - Reproductive Health Session for the purpose of transforminginnovative projects. Through the kick-off meeting, project solicitation,preliminary competition, semi-finals and finals, the best projects areselected, in order to stimulate medical institutions, scientific researchinstitutions and medical enterprises of reproductive health medicine to keep onmaking innovations.
